June BFOA Board Meeting #1 – Minutes                                        6/15/09
Meeting took place at South Plantation HS After General Membership Meeting 
 
Start: 8:00 pm  Present: Taglienti, Epstein, Gazzano, Baker, Bowen, Davis, Sager, Craven                    Not Present: Simpson

Member Issues:

  • Member Sam Hirsch was asked to meet with the Board after the general membership meeting to discuss his progress and expectation for the 2009 season. Hirsch was presented with his evaluations from the preseason as well as Booking Commissioner provided the board with various accounts of Mr. Hirsch’s on field work and communications. There have been several people who have tried to help Sam, however it seems that those suggestion have gone on deaf ears, as he hasn’t improved. The Board advised Sam Hirsch that at this time we would not be willing to give him any assignments, varsity, jv, middle school or timing assignments. He was told that we couldn’t deny him BFOA or FHSAA membership, however we would reimburse him BFOA dues if he wanted his money back. The board feels that it is their responsibility to the BCAA, Private Schools and FHSAA to put the best possible officials on the field for games in Broward County.

  • Member Ralph Maresca was asked to meet with the board after the general membership meeting to discuss his progress and expectations for the 2009 season. Ralph was presented with his evaluations from the preseason as well as the booking commissioner provided the board with some accounts of Mr. Maresca’s field work and communications.  Although Ralph is not where we expect him for his years of officiating he is very approachable and often asks for assistance in improvement. He takes information from veteran officials and attempts to apply it. We have basically given Ralph a warning that he needs improvement for us to allow him to work any varsity games. He was advised to work as many youth league games as possible and was given advice on how to improve.  He will also only be assigned sub-varsity assignments.

  • Member Charles Hunt was asked to meet with the board after the general membership meeting however he was a no show.
