June BFOA Board
Meeting – Minutes
6/28/09
Meeting took place at the
residence of Guy Taglienti
Start: 3:33 pm Present: Taglienti, Epstein, Gazzano, Simpson,
Baker, Bowen, Davis, Sager, Craven and Winston
Referee Candidate
Interviews: Prior to the meeting Referee interviews were done
with members Collura, Klemm, Erickson, Warren and Gazzano. The
remaining candidates will be interviewed on July 13th.
Finance Report:
Simpson gave a finance report. All bills are up to date,
nothing outstanding. There is approximately $8500 in checking
account, with registrations trickling in adding to those funds.
Registration
Report & Deadline: Sager gave us a report on who is registered
(paid) with us and FHSAA. 107 members have paid the BFOA, of those
107 about 99 are registered with the FHSAA. Of those 99, 12 are
pending Lunsford checks. He estimates our membership will climb
to around 140. Registration deadline is JULY 13th.
After that date members who are not registered will incur a $10
late fee.
Deadline to
Establish Varsity Crew Eligibility: Sager advised that at this
point there are 93 members will be eligible for varsity, however
that list may increase after the July 13th meeting. On
Fridays this year the most games we will have is 18, there are
other nights when there will be 17 games (at least 3 nights).
Attempts were made to have teams switch, however these could not
be avoided. In order to establish the varsity crew eligibility
list for the crew picks on 8/9/09 you will NEED TO BE REGISTERED
BY JULY 26TH.
Meeting
Attendance/Excuses: There was considerable discussion on the
by-laws those missing meetings (unexcused) and members who don’t
advise the Recording Secretary prior to missing meetings.
Discussion was also had about members who have work obligations
and can’t make meetings. Based on By-Law Article XII. Meetings –
Section 2 the following members will be suspended for one-week
period commencing with the next assignment period (preseason
games): R. Biggs, B. Blades, D. Buffington, C. Clark, M. Martinez,
T. McEvers, D. Milton, T. O’Neal, J. Shamash, and F. Wimberly.
Sager will email/contact these members and notify them of their
options. Simpson also made a motion that officials that have
notified in writing/email the BFOA via the Recording Secretary
that have work or education obligations prevent them from being at
the meetings have excused absences. Davis Seconded, more
discussion, 4 in favor, 2 opposed, motion passed.
Member
Issues/Grievance: A member presented a letter to Epstein,
(Board liaison with Grievance Committee) about his status for the
coming season and decision the board recently made about his
field/timer status. Board is standing by original decision with
this member and will advise him of his rights as a member with
respect to filing a grievance. Another member who was asked to
appear before the Board of Directors at the last general
membership meeting was tabled to next meeting.
FHSAA Officials
Leadership Conference:

Jessica
Lunsford – some associations are having to redo fingerprint
due to the counties loosing information.

Patches –
2012 the FHSAA will go to a smaller patch for football.

ECO for
Playoffs – This year the FHSAA will allow members who are
just timers to be on playoff crews, however in order to
accommodate that the BFOA will have to send one more official at
our expense to be the alternate.
July 13 General
Membership Meeting Agenda: Discussion was had on the order and
what will be discussed at the next general membership meeting.

for New Recruits: Winston provided us on the schedule for new
official training and Bill Hanlon is working with the AYFL for a
venue:

Committee
Staffing: Lists will be present at the July 13th
general membership meeting. These committees are a great way to
get involved in your football association. Epstein will send out
an email prior to the meeting letting everyone know what the
committees are and who the board liaison is for each committee.
Banquets vs.
Shirts Survey: The online survey will wait till after
the next general membership meeting and will be discussed at the
following board meeting.

Mobile Web Site
For Members: Vince Mundo created a mobile platform to view
schedules, contacts and other BFOA information on your cellular
phone using blackberry’s, iphones, and other smart phones. Go to
www.browardfootball.com/mobile
and you will see a logon for members.
