June BFOA
Board Meeting – Minutes
6/23/08
Meeting took place at
South
Plantation High School
Start:
8:00pm, Present: Craven, Taglienti, Gazzano, Bowen, Liese,
Davis, Sager Not Present: Baker, Winston
Two Referee Replacements :
Craven asked that all board members turn in their ballots for
the selection of the two open Referee positions. Gazzano
suggested before turning in ballots, that we discuss each
evaluation, since each board member didn’t have the opportunity to
see each candidate. Each board member who did evaluations of the
candidates advised the board how each candidate did during the
spring jamboree game. Gazzano made a motion to have all five
candidates meet with the board for a short question and answering
interview to conclude the Referee selection process. Bowen
seconded, all in favor, motion passed.
Training & Rules Interpreter:
Davis
made a motion that Tommy James will be the Rules Interpreter
assisted by Tom Winston. Liese seconded, all in favor, motion
passed.
Blue Bean Bags:
There was considerable discussion about keeping white bean
bags clean, what GMAC (Dade County) and Palm Beach County are
doing (using blue bean bags) and the small cost of using new blue
ones. Gazzano made a motion that we move to blue bean bags for
this coming football season at both the Varsity and JV level.
Taglienti seconded, all in favor, motion passed.
New Business:
Tye Sager talked with Tom Zace who advised he wants to have a
stronger emphasis mentoring the new members. As we have seen there
is a promising number of new members and he is concerned that
although training the new members to know rules and mechanics is
important, mentoring is sometimes put aside. He doesn’t want that
to happen. The board will discuss at the next board meeting how we
can strengthen the mentoring aspect of the program.
