December BFOA Board Meeting – Minutes 12/14/09
Meeting took place at South Plantation HS
Start:
7:05 pm Present: Taglienti, Epstein, Simpson, Baker,
Davis,
Bowen, Sager, Craven Not Present: Gazzano, Winston
Playoff
Hosting:
Board members discussed the pay and what the hosting members
where supposed to do during the playoffs. Bowen advised we
hosted 20 games this year. We will re-evaluate the cost and
what the responsibilities will be for a hosting member.
Epstein made a recommendation that we get with Damien
Huttonhoff for next year that if schools get the gate, that
they do the hosting next year.
Playoff
Game Payments:
Simpson advised he received information from the crews,
however several crews didn’t use the form they should have.
All checks have been processed and should be paid. Next year
during the Referee meeting we will remind them to use the
forms. Simpson also advised that it would be nice to get
address information from gremlins (Mundo) or if someone does
change an address to let Simpson know as he is responsible for
sending out various payments.
Playoff
Assignment Turn backs:
Any work related issues and emergencies will not be
penalized. However, if you didn’t have one of the above, you
will suffer not being able to work the playoffs in the
future. Epstein advised he would like to get a copy of the
Recommendations Committee membership availability forms. Also,
next year if it occurs, you will be asked to explain at a
Board Meeting.
Banquet
Review:
Next year if we have a banquet, Simpson and Epstein suggested
that any payments we make should go to the facility and not a
member. Simpson also advised that whoever collected at the
door (members Silver and
Griffin)
that nothing was turned it as of this date. Epstein suggested
a little tighter constraints on the handling of money and
payments in the future. Simpson will contact Member Silver
and find out where the checks and money from the door (guest
fees) is. Suggestions were made to not even have a speaker,
Vince does a great job and there really isn’t a need to have a
speaker. The board was excited to see that there were many
members who attended especially after the shirt/banquet
controversy. Silver called in during the meeting, advised he
paid the DJ and he paid the entertainment and gave rest to
Mundo. He believed there were 25 guests, however he didn’t
have the roster and paperwork in front of him.
Sportsmanship Award:
2009 Winners
were Pompano Beach (public schools) and Westminster Academy
(private schools). Davis made a motion that we award one award
to the public schools winner and one to private schools
winner, second by Bowen, all in favor, motion passed.
Taglienti will do the presentation.
BCAA
All-Star Banquet:
The crew
that works the game will get an invite to attend the Banquet.
International Football Game:
Epstein
advised there is going to be one game
USA
vs. World on 1/30/10. USA Football will do the assignment of
officials and will be using NCAA rules.
Field
Clinic:
Epstein
asked why we have to host this clinic, he would like to ask
Dade and Palm Beach if they would like to assist. Epstein
advised it is a ton of work and would like to see what help if
any Dade or Palm Beach could supply. There was plenty of
discussion on how much effort we have to put into putting a
field clinic on this coming year. Gazzano has put out several
emails to the membership, however there have only been a
handful of members willing to help. Taglienti will check with
surrounding
Palm Beach
and Miami-Dade to find out their intentions.
How to
Improve the Organization:
Many members liked the way the meetings were handled this
year, they liked the way we incorporated the membership in
decision making. Taglienti asked how we can improve. He asked
that we think about it between now and our next board meeting
and see what ideas everyone comes up with.
Meeting
Adjourned: 8:15 pm and Next meeting is January 25, 2010 @7p.
