BFOA Board Meeting – Minutes
12/14/08
Meeting took place at Larry Bowens Office
Start:
3:00pm, Present: Craven, Taglienti, Baker, Gazzano, Bowen,
Davis,
Sager, Epstein, Simpson
Transitional
Meeting from Outgoing Board to incoming.
Schedule mix up
(Last week of Season):
Wesly
Floyd asked that the board look into a football game assignment
where there was a mix up with two officials showing up for a
football game (one position on field). There was a
miscommunication on whether one guy gave the assignment up and the
schedule on gremlins was blank. Tye Sager called Wesly Floyd the
day before the game and assigned him to it. Bill Hanlon showed up
for the game and worked it telling Wesly Floyd he was assigned the
game. Bill Hanlon was eventually paid for the game. After
considerable discussion, there was a motion made by Larry Bowen to
pay Wesly. Floyd a JV game fee, died for lack of a second. Guy
Taglienti made a motion to pay Wesly Floyd $40 fee, Bryan Davis
seconded, all in favor, motion passed.
Scheduling
Software:
There
was considerable discussion on the frequency of officials showing
up at wrong assignments or not showing up at all. It was asked if
Vince could create an email system within Gremlins similar to the
Arbiter software. The nice thing of the Arbiter software is it
creates a paper trail of notifications, thus providing proof of
changes. Tye Sager suggested that if there was a switch in
software to Arbiter it would make his job extremely difficult.
New Business:
Crews:
The
board has started discussion on setting the number of crews for
the 2009 season. Tye Sager is making a suggestion to increase the
number of crews to 17.
Upcoming Clinic:
Dade
County GMAC is having an on field FHSAA football clinic this
coming year. Guy Taglienti suggested getting in touch with Palm
Beach and Dade County and alternate field clinics so that we don’t
get stuck hosting one every four years. The clinic that we were
planning to have in May will most likely be cancelled due to GMAC
hosting one. The board will vote on that in January 2009.
USA
Football:
Steve Epstein suggested a block membership at $10 an official to
USA Football which will give you access to all of their online
training. USA Football will give back $10 gift certificate back
per official to Honig’s, so essentially it will cost $0 per
official. Will discuss more at January meeting and possibly voting
on it.
Evaluation
Process:
The evaluation process will be looked at again for the upcoming
season.
